I had muted the original music that went along with the opening menu sequence of "revolution" - when I "unmuted" it, I was able to burn the dvd without a problem. Go back to iPhoto and export the iPhoto slideshow to iDVD again. This reduced the size to within the DVD capacity and it worked. Thanks for the help! Brand new i7 iMac, latest OSX updates, have been trying to do something incredibly simple...burn a DVD with iDVD!
