The final system I mentioned breaking is as bare bones as it can get, so I can't imagine any conflict on it with other system software or add-ons. I managed to get my pc working by uninstalling Norton, reinstalling it and then immediately disabling automatic updates for Norton. This can be caused by: Not having permission to make these changes. It's not even clear from the way IE crashes that the problem is even vaguely related NIS - you have to dig into crash reports to find the faulting module. It works for me. Each one can occur in one of many hundreds of locations in the system. Use this only as a last resort as you will lose plugins, cookies, passwords, etc.
Also, look at Internet Options > Security Tab and uncheck the box that says ‘Enable Protected Mode‘. 3. The interface is redesigned literally every year, and I have no idea where that is...
