Put a new thin even layer thermal grease on the CPU and GPU. Now to solve this kind of error, I was just bypassing it by pressing ESC key at first, which I did several whenever I switched ON the notebook. Is there a movie version? :) I know what you mean, the step by step is not specific to the fan, it's still removing everything to get to it, including LCD I did apply new grease and fan and display work fine. I turn it back on again and repeat the same process and same result. Take your canned blowing out the rest of the heatsink, and also the rotor blades.
Replaced both the fan AND the motherboard, and I'm STILL GETTING THE ERROR!!!!!! Worked like a charm. Please help me! Just blow very hard into it, worked for me.

If I am on battery power, no problems. I would suggest buying a new assembly because it comes with thermal grease applied to the heatsink. Thanks Edit2: Unfortunately the screws are still physically too tight for me to handle, but if I can get the exact fan model so I don't order something wrong I can Fan Error Lenovo T61 I would recommend replacing it with the same FRU.
