If for whatever reason I have to shut the laptop off, I just know to press ESC when as soon as I see the Fan Error message. It arrived 1 day DHL which was obviously more money but worth it for me. For me I got rid of the Fan error after 3 attempts of windows 7 shutdown. Your cable could be bad. Check This Out

please help.. At first it really didn't seem like it was going to budge but as soon as it came loose the fan slid out nicely. The fan revved up once but not to full speed. I tried putting in Air from the vent using a hair drier… but could not fool the bios by making it feel that the fan is running..? It doesn't shut down when i run in safe mode.
