It is labeled DC5V .2A, where the T42's original fan is a DC5V 0.4A-but my understanding stays a fan with a lower ampere should spin where a higher one was. This happens when I reconnect the old dysfunctional fan as well now (I pass the fan error by blowing air with my mouth and the fan spins for a few seconds). Check This Out
I'll replace the fan as soon as I can find one. I have an X61 that just got this problem. Bearings were broken. (It did a strange noise.) I bought a new one, installed it by youtube "guides" and now its there spinning and working well. =D Not hard to swap Try installing the old defective heat sink assembly back.

You will notice a series of small vents. It's hard to tell what's going on. I replaced the fan today just as described here, and now the screen won’t turn on at all! If we have ever helped you in the past, please consider helping us. Days, weeks, months… I guess it'll work until you burn the CPU. This is making me crazy.
I cleaned it out very well and then replaced it with my nyciticom ebay new lenovo toshiba fan 42W2462 as noted in another thread. I stuffed paper between the keyboard and fan (not covering the fan, just the heat sync). It works normally…but it makes noise and I receive the error… I don't know. Recently, its given me the ‘fan error message at the top left corner of my screen.
