It's probably the cmos battery needing replaced. I checked the pins & bent them a bit to make sure that when I reinserted the plug that the pins would make contact with he plug. Just replaced my cmos because i was getting the 161 163 192 erros. Do you also get any other errors, eg., 161 or 163?
A buddy of mine needed a machine for a while so I lent him the Thinkpad. Yes, my password is: Forgot your password? installed fluxbuntu and gave this little notebook another year of life. Files removed 8/28/12 by manufacturer's demand.

If it's reading significantly below 3.0v, replace it. Maybe once I get the error fixed and get the computer up & running, I will start a new thread about the possibility to upgrade the system board. Do these fixes apply to all Thinkpad models such as A31p etc, or just the 600E series? Already a member?

I have to adjust the clock time, but once booted, the system works fine, with no errors. The latest will not read as 1.22, but rather IBET54WW. From there, you can disconnect the battery lead and pull it free. If I could put a system board from a 600e in my 600, then maybe i can increse the processor speed too? Do I still need to replace the battery?

Instead it greeted me with the BIOS error code "161, 192, 163″, which is computer speak for "What the fuck, I can't remember who or what I am." I did a Here’s the problem. But the CMOS battery is good? Can I indeed upgrade?
I eventually got it back a year or so later but it wouldn't boot. nevermind the main battery doesn't hold much more than 10 minutes of power anymore but its nice not have to set the clock ever time i power it up now. It came with XP preinstalled, so I woul dhave to assume it has the latest version on it as that was required for XP was it not?
