Was this answer helpful? I read, in an earlier post of yours, that you recommend using the same FRU # part…..what would do you think could happen if I used a “newer” fan ? I faced the same Fan Error in my think pad.. The codes were listed in the IBM user guide. Check This Out

The fan starting spinning immediately but had a buzzing sound which it hadn't had before. Maybe it's not making good connection with the motherboard. I saw some settings for "Minimum power" and "Always slow" processing speed, but a super slow computer doesn't do me much good anyway. I stuffed paper between the keyboard and fan (not covering the fan, just the heat sync).

I don't know which, if either, of these things made a difference, but so far I have been running on AC power (through the powerstrip and the docking station) for about hehe. I started getting fan errors on my T40 recently and began smacking the laptop.

The problem is that the seller sent me a short fan assembly and when the technician opened my laptop we found out it needs the long heatsink, the one that cools Tpfancontrol If the heat sink is glued to the chip by the thermal grease, I guess you'll have to use some reasonable force to remove the heat sink. My problem is they I can't find receipt for my Lenovo T420s, so can I contact with support without this ? Perhaps the chip itself has some kind of electrical resistance that has failed? The fan in my T42 is clearly not operating at all. The fan is replaced, thermal grease applied and issue resolved for a very long time.I hope this helped in some way. 1 Kudo Reply dpasek What's DOS?
