I tried to do the same on a root terminal, nope that didn't happen.I read that the files/filesystem were most probably corrupted when the power went out, or disk hardware issues. As I recall, the legacy ntfs driver had no stable write support and was largely abandoned when it turned out ntfs-3g was significantly more stable and secure.
